Salome Ureña was a poet, educator, and national figure from the Dominican Republic. Salome was one of the most influential women in the country as not only was she a writer, but also an advocate for women’s education. She made many efforts to increase women’s accessibility to education. For instance, She opened up one of the first centers of higher education for women in DR. Thanks to this, the first female teachers of the country graduated from this institution.
